Ethiopian Ambassador Encourages Pakistani Investment and Trade

Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula made a compelling case for increased trade and investment between Ethiopia and Pakistan during his visit to the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) in Pakistan.

Ambassador Abdula emphasized the need for a more robust banking channel between the two nations. He urged Pakistani banks to establish branches in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. This, he argued, would significantly ease business transactions and pave the way for a significant boost in bilateral trade.

Looking beyond just financial infrastructure, Ambassador Abdula highlighted the existing flight connections between Pakistan and Ethiopia, with even more routes planned for the near future. He emphasized Ethiopia’s view of Pakistan as a strategic gateway to access other African markets.

For Pakistani businesses seeking investment opportunities, Ambassador Abdula painted a promising picture. Ethiopia boasts ten operational industrial parks and a skilled workforce, creating a fertile ground for various industries. He specifically mentioned textile production as a sector ripe for Pakistani investment due to Ethiopia’s abundant cotton supply.

Ambassador Abdula didn’t shy away from outlining the benefits Pakistani businesses can expect. Ethiopia’s growing economy, coupled with duty-free export opportunities to the EU and other countries, presents a lucrative proposition. He also underscored Ethiopia’s well-educated population, a factor that can significantly benefit Pakistani ventures.

The Ambassador’s visit wasn’t just about future prospects. He announced an upcoming Pakistani trade delegation scheduled to visit Ethiopia in late May. This delegation offers a valuable opportunity for Pakistani businesses to connect directly with their Ethiopian counterparts and government officials, fostering stronger economic ties between the two nations.

Overall, Ambassador Abdula’s visit to the FCCI signifies Ethiopia’s strong desire to forge a robust economic partnership with Pakistan. His message was clear: Pakistan has the opportunity to tap into a growing African market with a supportive Ethiopian government.
